Principal Peplinski urges parents and visitors to the school to be very mindful of
children's safety when driving near the school grounds. Parking in handicapped, fire, or
designated staff zones is not allowed without the appropriate decal.
Abraham Lincoln will be competing in the 10-school annual Elementary Quiz Bowl
Competition to be held in March. Preparation is underway.
The Lincoln after-school Drama Club debut performances December 18 were well recieved
and served to instruct the 5th and 6th grade actors and their audiences about "The
Thirteen Colonies"
period of American History.
Over 100 awards for outstanding student achievements were presented December 20 at
the Awards Assembly. The PTA has now purchased and hung the Lincoln California
Distinguished School plaque upon the office wall.
The PTA and school thanks the Watkins family for its generous donation to provide
buses for field trips. The PTA will continue to help pay for field trips, programs and
additional tools for school improvement. More volunteers to help with PTA events are
needed. Please contact the school office to offer your help.
Parents and friends of Lincoln are reminded to turn in receipts for Simi Mall
purchases. This program runs through April 30, 2008.
Mrs. Palmer has been selected the Literacy Coach for Lincoln. Parents are asked to
read with their children during the holiday break. STAR testing will start in the Spring.

Lincoln School has received the District PTA Gold Medal for increased level of
membership.
Mrs. Karl's fifth grade class won the 'box-top' fundraiser. The school collected a
total of 3248 box-tops.
The new Lincoln 'Choir' has 25 members learning social studies through the study of
folk songs. Royal High School singers are participating to assist on a limited basis. A
concert is planned for February.
November 29 at noon to 9:00 p.m. the Baja Fresh grill will benefit Lincoln for
dining in and take-out purchases. Bring the flier.
December 6 Chuck-E-Cheese will benefit the school for dine-in and merchandise at 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
December 11 at 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Famous Dave's will benefit Lincoln for dine-in
and take-out purchases. Bring the flier.

The Ice Cream Social on Wednesday, November 14, at 6:00PM to 8:00PM will have face
painting, balloon making, and raffle prizes. Lincoln children of PTA members will
receive free ice cream to load with sprinkles.

Purchases including pizza deliveries at Lamppost Pizza, 3921 Cochran, 520-9030, will
benefit Lincoln every day 11:00AM to 10:00PM in November through the end of December.
Be sure to mention Lincoln when you order.
The Simi Valley Town Center 'Shopping for Students' is ongoing until the end of
April. Please register you purchase receipts at the Center office or bring them to the
school office. Receipts are returned to the purchaser. Amounts accrue points for
Lincoln cash.
Pre-sale tickets may be purchased at the school office for the November 2 Harvest
Festival. Opening at 6:00PM to 9:00PM there will be food, fun, music, and games to
enjoy. Lincoln is grateful for the assistance from Royal High School volunteers.
Lincoln school also appreciates the PTA volunteers who took over copy room chores so
there's more time to enhance classroom projects. Students are benfitting from the 'Game
Day' program with the fun way to excercise regularly and the introduction to several
different organized sports. The new 4th and 5th grade DramaClub members are rehearsing
a history play "The Thirteen Colonies" to be performed in December. Lincoln's English
Language Learners have completed the CELDT
testing successfully on schedule.
Mrs. Viramontes' Kindergarten class won the PTA Membership Drive with 100% participation. The award is a Gift Certificate
for books at Borders.

The Lincoln Site Council has met and approved the final draft of the 2007-08 School
Improvement Plan. Principal Peplinski emphasized that reading comprehension is an
important goal. Discussion of the use of discretionary funds is ongoing. The next
meeting of the site Council will be on January 16, 2008 at 2:45 pm. persons interested
in attending may call the school office.
Parents and friends of Lincoln please note that on October 24 at 5 pm to 8 pm
purchases at the Simi Valley McDonalds Restaurants (except drive-thru ) will benefit
Lincoln. Be sure to mention the school name.
Student photos for the Yearbook will be taken October 25.

Lincoln students will have the opportunity to enrich their school experience in
optional Drama Club and Choir after school. Scheduled for in-class are the Second Step
(Character Development) and Game Day (Physical Education) programs.
Parents and friends of Lincoln are asked to participate in the various fund-raising
events offered at local businesses. Guido's Pizza and Pasta will benefit Lincoln 11am to 10pm
every day through the end of October. Chuck-E-Cheese will fundraise for Lincoln at
3pm to 9 pm on October 11. Always mention our school at these events.
"Shopping for Students" at the Simi Valley Town Center is ongoing. Be sure to save
your purchase receipts. Box-top collection also benefits the school. Please send receipts and
box tops to school with your child or drop these off at the school office.

On September 26 Royal High School will send members of their band, cheerleaders,
football team and Associated Student board to Lincoln's campus. Our students will be
guests of Royal High at Football Night the evening of September 28 starting at 6:30pm.
September 27 at 12 noon to 9:00pm Baja Fresh restaurant will have a fundraiser for
Lincoln. Guests are asked to bring the school flyer for confirmation.
Back-to-School Night for parents and friends of Lincoln will be on September 27 at
7:00pm to 8:00pm. The PTA will present reports, classrooms will be open and teachers will be on
hand.
Participants in the Uncle Jerry's T-Shirt fundraiser are reminded to bring in
proceeds on September 28.

Parents are asked to send their
children to school on time every day, perhaps with the help of family, neighbors or
friends. Lincoln School has an intensive teaching schedule aimed at helping every
student achieve learning success. Students who are late or miss a day of instruction are
at a disadvantage.
Our Literacy Coach is Janet Payne; Lead Teacher is Debora Palmer; Community Liaison is Diana Tipayaosot.
The PTA General Meeting will be at school the evening of September 18 at 6pm.
Parents and friends of Lincoln are invited to attend and hear what the PTA plans for the
coming months to help
provide special programs and benefits to the children. There will be fundraisers such as
T-Shirts and other appealing items for sale.

Lincoln School welcomes new Principal Jason Peplinski, previously Vice-Principal at Royal
High School. Principal Peplinski looks forward to a great year for Lincoln and invites parents to visit him at the school and urges them to participate in all school functions.
He is conversational in Spanish.
The PTA membership drive is under way and information kits are being sent home. Volunteers to help with various tasks at the office or class projects are appreciated
by teachers and students. Interested persons are asked to stop by the school office to
sign up.
